“H” is for Hawaii-Our Pacific Island Adventure

While on our South Pacific Island Adventure we arrived in the state of Hawaii on the 23rd of January, 2023.  This state has been on our bucket list for some time.  We now only have about 6 states left to complete our 50!

After sailing 2000 miles over the course of 4 days to get here, it gives us a better understanding of just how remote this 50th state of ours is.  We were delighted to discover the following little facts about Hawaii:

1)  It is the only state in the tropics.

2)  It is the only state which is part of an archipelago (a collection of islands).

3)  It is the only state to have a royal palace.

4)  Hawaii has the longest life expectancy of any state in the US, at a rate of 80.7 years.

5)  The worlds largest naval command (the U.S. Pacific Fleet) is positioned here.

6)  It has one of the highest costs of living but is also the third wealthiest state.

7)  The Hawaiian flag is the only US flag to include the flag of another country.  The Union Jack of the United    Kingdom is located in the upper left corner, gives tribute to

8)  Most sunscreen is illegal in Hawaii, gambling is also illegal.

9)  Hawaii grows in size every year due to volcanic eruptions.

10) Hawaii is the only state to have a native language. The Hawaiian alphabet only has 12 letters.

11) Each of the 8 main islands has an official flower.

12) The same word (Aloha) is used to say hello and goodbye.

13) No billboards are allowed in Hawaii.

14) Barack Obama was born in Hawaii, he was the only US President to be born outside of the 48 contiguous states.

15) In the interest of preserving the natural beauty one can not build a structure taller than a palm tree on the island of Kauai.
