“A” is for Atriums-Cruising

While cruising, we challenged our fellow travelers to document their time on board the ship.  The goal was to find something to photograph, which began with the letter “A”.  We chose atrium.

On a cruise, the atrium is usually one of the first places that a passenger will see on embarkation day.  Similar to a hotel lobby, it is the heart of the ship.  In this location, you will also find the customer service desk, the shore excursion office, the purser’s desk and the cruise consultant.

Every cruise line has a specific decorating style, which sets the tone for the rest of the ship.  Some atriums are elegant with crystal chandeliers, brass rails and dark wood.  Others are filled with neon colors, expressing a playful, Las Vegas like environment.  On most of the newer ships, the atrium will extend, towering skyward over multiple stories.  Usually these will be connected by glass elevators.   This central location is a great place to meet new friends, while sitting at one of the connecting bars or cafe’s.  Throughout your passage, you will find that there is and ever-changing hub of activities hosted in this area.   Guests might enjoy ballroom dancing, drink demonstrations, live musicians, photo ops, and the Captain’s welcome just to name a few.
